Updated Start Date for Sabermetrics Player Production Evaluation

9 Apr 2019 by Tommy Satterfield

Good Afternoon Family,

I have some exciting news that I wanted to share with you all. First off this will be long, so apologies in advance for that.

I met with Coach Mike yesterday to go over some statistical analysis of our growth through two tournaments this season,

• Example: Quality at Bat Differential and how it compares to our successes on the field. This is Quality at bats which any one of: 3 pitches after 2 strikes, and Any at bat that has 6+ pitches, extra base hit, Hard Hit Ball, Walk, SAC Bunt, SAC Fly.
• In our wins we are averaging 17 Quality At Bats right at an average of 41% of our at bats being Quality at Bats. This needs to be at minimum 60%, with 40 % being HHB.
• In our wins we have 46 runs scored, and allowed 10 runs.
• In our losses we are only averaging 6.33 QAB per game with an average of 29.06%.
• We have been beaten by an average score of 5 runs in these losses

While meeting with Mike yesterday, he had a fantastic Idea that I am going to run with.

I am not sure many of you know but my job outside of baseball deals with analytics, and metrics, for multimillion dollar pharmaceutical accounts. Since we are using game changer this season, I have access to verifiable data that can be used to improve focus in practice, and production on the field of play. Being a numbers guy this is right up my alley.

So moving forward, once a month we will have a dedicated practice of Coach Mike, Coach Chris, and I meeting with the players, and their parents to go over our plan of improvement, their sabermetrics, and let the guys see and understand why their individual development and improvement is focused on that given specific metric.
During these practices each player will have a centralized focus on their prospective area of improvement decided by our coaching staff
Example: WHIP% (Walks -Hits per Inning Pitched, etc.)

These advanced analytics will help engage you all, as well as the players in their growth, and help keep our focus where it should be – On the development of each player.

●●●Update●●●

Our first Sabermetrics practice will be May 11th. This will get us through Easter and have two more tournaments worth of data to use.

It is important that each player is present, and has a parent representative available to discuss these stats with. If you have any questions on these metrics, please feel free to reach out to me any time!
